ARE ALL CROSSFIT AFFILIATES THE SAME?

Good question.

This is NOT a franchise operation. CrossFit “boxes” are individually owned and operated. The facilities, classes and programming may vary from location to location. As a potential CrossFitter and discerning consumer we encourage you to perform the necessary due diligence – check out the affiliates “box” (studio/gym), coaches/trainers, and classes.

Some CF affiliates omit Olympic Weightlifting, gymnastics and other crucial exercise modalities. Some programs are based on the overused “boot camp” model of group exercise, and others segment their training to the point of losing the effectiveness of the CrossFit methodology. The experience and skill level (NOT the same thing) of coaches and trainers vary considerably.

What are you getting for your $$$? Are you just paying for someone to tell you what to do, or is there real coaching going on? Does your CF coach take the time to review, explain, demonstrate and get you to understand WHY? Does your affiliate hold specialty workshops and educational seminars for further help with the intricate details and skills required of CrossFit? Are you learning new skills and moving forward, setting PR’s? (Personal Records)

If you are new to the CrossFit methodology it is important to understand what a quality program should look like. When searching for an affiliate take a look at their programming as this will give you a good indication of what they are all about. A few simple things to look for in a quality Crossfit Affiliate:

1) Offer DEDICATED STRENGTH TRAINING at least once per week/training cycle. (Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting)
2) Practice and teach GYMNASTICS and complex bodyweight movements such as rope climbing, hand stand push ups, power rings, etc.
3) Program no more than one "CHIPPER" WOD per week/training cycle. (A chipper is a large volume of work composed of more than three exercises.)
4) QUALITY INSTRUCTION & EDUCATION: Take a good look at the coaches’ credentials. Have they earned quality certifications/training that enables them to teach Crossfit properly? Do they actually use Crossfit as their primary training method? Currently here at CFFM our Coaching staff offers the following areas of expertise:

CrossFit Level I Certified Trainer
CrossFit Level I Basic Barbell Certified
CrossFit Level I Olympic Weightlifting Certified
CrossFit Level I Nutrition Certified
CrossFit Level I Pose Running/Endurance Certified

Additionally, following the prescribed method of nutrition from CF HQ is crucial in obtaining optimum performance gains - this is the Paleo/Zone Nutritional Model. Does your CF coach advocate proper implementation and understanding of this model?

So again, we can all be similar, but vastly different. Choose the environment that fits YOU. Regardless of your decision we are happy you found CrossFit. Done correctly, it is the BEST strength and conditioning program – period!
